About Classic Fireplace

Our Story

The name Classic Fireplace has been synonymous with quality products and excellent service in the GTA and Durham Region for over 35 years.

Josh Malcolm
In 2003, with commitment, energy and the desire to succeed, I purchased Classic Fireplace & Gourmet Grills. I have never looked back. In 2005, I opened a Classic Fireplace showroom on Queen Street in the Beach of Toronto. In 2010, I acquired a third Classic Fireplace showroom in Whitby, and in 2014 we continued to grow, opening our fourth showroom in Ajax.
Now four locations strong and renamed simply Classic Fireplace and BBQ Store, we are growing faster than ever, thanks to our great staff and the quality product lines we carry.

Our Family

When I was only two years old in 1981, my parents started a small side business out of our family garage an hour northeast of Toronto called ‘Nestleton Stove Works’. A few short years later my father left his factory job to sell, service and install fireplaces full time. Soon after, my father moved the business out of the family garage into a retail space in Port Perry, Ontario. Over the next ten years he expanded his business to include three retail locations and a large distribution network for the growing Napoleon brand.

From as far back as I can remember, my life has revolved around the fireplace industry.
As a boy, I began making sales and service calls with my dad and I gradually moved on to work with the installation and service crews as I grew older. After graduating from the mechanical engineering program at the University of Western Ontario, I returned to my father’s shop to gain practical experience. At that time, an established fireplace and bbq store came up for sale in Toronto. The ‘big city’ store was a great fit. With a little help from my dad, I eagerly took on Classic Fireplace & Gourmet Grills in 2003.

hearth and home

Many of my five siblings have also followed my father into the family business. The Malcolms now independently own and operate 10 stores in the greater Toronto area. Oldest brother Kingsley owns and operates the Fire & Ice stores in Coboconk and Bobcaygeon, younger brother Nicholas owns and operates Fire Away in Bowmanville, sister Marley works at two of the original stores, Ash or Embers in Lindsay and Over Ridge Fireplaces in Port Perry, and younger brother Logan owns and operates Fires Alive locations in Peterborough and Young’s Point.

From a humble beginning in a small Ontario town to a network of successful family stores, fireplaces are the story of my life. And as it turns out, people in the ‘big city’ appreciate small town service.

Visit our showrooms, meet our staff and give us the opportunity to show you what sets Classic Fireplace apart. You won’t be disappointed.
